Floating objects
15th Jan 2026
Today we explored how to make an object float. Each child was given plasticine and a unifix cube. They had to make an object which could float with the unifix cube(passenger) on it. At first, all boats sank. We quickly realised that you couldn’t have any holes on the boat and that it needed sides to keep the water out. After that, the children changed their boats and increased the height of the side of the boats until they eventually floated. As an extra challenge, we put more passengers on the boats. It was great fun and a fantastic way to test engineering skills!
