Champion School of Sanctuary!
Today, Friday the 9th of May, we were awarded the title of Champion School of Sanctuary!!
A monitoring team visited our school to look at all the work we have been doing under the three principles of Learn, Action and Share.
Our School of Sanctuary committee girls, along with Ms. Quinn, Ms. Rogers and Ms. Murphy, took the monitoring team on a tour of our school to show our School of Sanctuary journey. We showcased our Welcome board, KiVa School board, Active Flag board, Amber Flag board, EAL Room, Welcome packs, School of Sanctuary board, Sensory Room, country posters, multi-cultural books/dual language books and resources, Navan Travellers board and Depicting Diversity art work. The monitoring team also visited some of our classes. They visited Senior Infants, 3rd Class, 4th Class B, 5th Class and 6th Class. The girls were wonderful and shared all their learning with the team.
After this, the monitoring team spoke to our committee girls and teachers. We discussed our thoughts on the programme and our future plans. The monitoring team were so impressed with us that they granted us Champion School status!
After lunch, we held an Assembly and Intercultural Concert in our school hall. Some members of our Parents' Association and Board of Management attended our Assembly/Concert. The student council from Scoil Eoin Baiste and their teacher Mr. McKay attended also. Our School of Sanctuary committee presented the Assembly/Concert. Some girls performed traditional dances, songs and poems. It was amazing! Kinda and Sara from Schools of Sanctuary Ireland announced to our school that we are a Champion School and the first school in Dundalk to receive this title. They were very impressed with our work. After the Assembly/Concert, we showed the students from Scoil Eoin Baiste the work we are doing and explained the programme to them.
We all had a wonderful day. Well done to our super committee girls who were wonderful. Well done to our teachers and girls who showcased their brilliant learning for the monitoring team. Well done to the girls who performed at our Intercultural Concert. We had a super day and look forward to continuing our journey as a Champion School of Sanctuary!
