We love doing P.E. with our teachers every week.

PE TIMETABLE

OUR PE TIMETABLE HAS BEEN REVIEWED AND UPDATED TO MAXIMISE ALL CLASSES' ACCESS TO OUR SCHOOL HALL. A PLAN FOR THE YEAR AHEAD HAS BEEN AGREED TO ENSURE WE COVER FIVE PE STRANDS:
SEPT/OCT - ATHLETICS
NOV/DEC - GAMES
JAN TO FEB MID-TERM - GYMNASTICS
FEB MID-TERM TO EASTER - DANCE
EASTER TO SUMMER - OUTDOOR & ADVENTURE AND/OR AQUATICS
NOW LETS' GET ACTIVE!!!

CPD- October 2019.

Ms Jordan attended training on 'Well-being through Physical activity' as part of the HSE Health Promotion Unit. The emphasis was on getting active in the classroom. They provided the school with some excellent resources to use to promote the Active Flag. We will use these next month when we take on our first challenge 'Active Breaks'.

CPD- November 2019

Our teachers Ms Butterly and Ms O Carroll attended a 'Move Well, Move Often' training day on November 25th. It dealt with  improving fundamental movements skills of our girls. In January we are planning a training session with the rest of the staff.

We have assigned PE equipment monitors to aid in the organisation of the room and also to get the supplies ready on PE days. The girls on this team are all from 4th class. The monitors for 2019 are:
Molly McEnteggart
Amy Maguire
Joanna Badejo
Lucy McManus

Gymnastics

Gymnastics - All class lessons for January until Mid-Term break in February were based on the Strand of Gymnastics.
We pulled lots of different shapes and stretched muscles we never knew we had.......but it was lots of fun!!!!

Land Paws Programme

Senior Infants and 2nd Class will complete the Land PAWS Programme this year. Senior Infants plan to complete it in the 2nd term while 2nd class will complete it during the 3rd term. Watch this space for our certificates on completion!!!

Dance

All classes are focused on the Strand of Dance for six weeks from February mid-term until Easter. Listen out for some funky music and watch out for some interesting moves as we dance the day away!!!
There is a mixture of Creative Dance and Folk Dance being taught across the classes. Some of our older classes are learning some Céilí Dances as we plan to have Céilí for Seachtain na Gaeilge!!

Home school Pe

Here are some useful websites to help you with PE at home.
The Body Coach- He is doing daily lessons at 9 am. These also save to his Uoutube channel so you can do them at a time that suits you.

https://www.scoilnet.ie/pdst/physlit/beyond/- There are loads of great ideas here on lots of different PE skills that we teach the girls every  week.

Don't forget to check out the Active Schools Week page for lots more fun ideas.

2020- A new school year.

We are glad to be back at school. We will begin with Athletics and the 'Run around Ireland' challenge in September and October.

PE At Home 2021

While Covid 19 has brought many challenges to our lives it doesn't change the importance our PE both in school and at home. We had been working through the strands of Athletics and Games using alternatives ways of teaching and learning up to Christmas. We had some rugby coaching also which took outside in a safe setting.
While we are at home for the first few months of 2021 each class teacher is making sure to promote the PE curriculum in alternative ways through active breaks during learning and a weekly exercise task. The teachers have worked hard to try and promote the importance of PE and also to assign simple lessons that are achievable at home.
One such class the school has promoted is the Months Free Membership to School Fitness Ireland which is holding daily classes during February for families to avail of. Also our  HSCL Ms O Rourke -Curran is working in conjunction with 4 other HSCLs to runa selection of free fitness classes for all our girls and their families throughout February.
This will really help us have a FIT February!
