Our playground leaders got under way on Friday 15th. Our 5th and 6th class girls are taking turns to be the leaders on Fridays from now on. They will be on both the senior and junior yard.

December 2019: Ms O Carroll's 3rd class are doing an Active Advent Calendar. Each girl has a date with their name on it with a treat and an activity inside. The girls get to choose if it is an individual or a whole class task to do the activity. We are excited to see who will be on each day!
Active break challenge 2019.
The whole school has taken part in a month long challenge where we take an active break daily. We used a variety of breaks in our classes such as 'Just Dance', 'Go Noodle' and outdoor running/exercise breaks. The girls and teachers all really enjoyed these breaks and will try to incorporate them as much as possible going forward. We will try and keep our Christmas activities as active as possible too!!Check out our gallery below to see our moves.
Christmas activities 2019
We had our Christmas fun run as well as a Christmas disco on Thursday December 19th. All the girls and teachers dressed up in festive colours and had great fun. We have had a great start to the year being active and are looking forward to being even more active in 2020.

Back to school and back to being active 2020
We are thrilled to be back to school this September. We are going to make sure and keep our active flag work going in a safe way. Our first challenge of the new school year is the 'Run Around Ireland' challenge. We will run laps of the yard everyday in our class bubbles and total it at the end of each week to see what location we ran to! Check out the map below to see some of the places we can go to. Thanks to Ms McMahons 4th class from last year for calculating all the distances for us last March.
Week 1: We ran a total of 180Km as a school this week and reached Glenveagh National park in Donegal. Well done girls on a brilliant first week.
Week 2: This week we ran a total of 148km and reached Ben Bulbin in Sligo. We are really enjoying all our running and especially in the nice weather
Week 3: We ran almost 200 Km this week and managed to visit a few nearby places. We got to the Spire in Dublin, Newgrange in Meath and Slieve Donard in Down.
Week 4- Our final week! We reached The Giants Causeway. As a school we ran a total of 694 Km over the four weeks. We are very proud of this achievement.
Active Breaks Challenge November 9th- December 4th
Our next challenge is to take an active break every day. We will have a range of indoor and outdoor breaks for 5-10 minutes. Each class will decide what they will do with their teacher. Taking active breaks has been proven to help the girls mental health and also their concentration ability in class. In each class one girl each week will be assigned the role of recording the breaks achieved by the class. This sheet is on the classroom door for all to see as they pass by.
We enjoyed a ' Feel Good Friday' last week on our 3rd week of our Active Breaks Challenge.
iv used our Active breaks on Friday November 27th as part of a new initiative this year which see us having a 'Feel Good Friday' on the last teaching Friday of each month. Last week we each took 2-3 active breaks throughout the day. We have been enjoying the mixture of breaks each week and are into the final week of the challenge now. Check us out enjoying our breaks and being active!!
Active Christmas 2020- Feel good Fridays
This year we had to move our Santa Dash from Friday to Thursday due to our lovely Irish weather!! Ms Mischo's 6th class created some wonderful posters to promote this months 'Feel Good Friday' activity and we put these up in each class and around the school also. Mrs McNally, Ms Murphy and Ms O Rourke- Curran gave all the girls a fabulous treat after their Dash also- a delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream. Well deserved after all the running:) Thanks to Ms Fearon for capturing all these wonderful moments.

Junior infants - Senior infants- First class:
We have been dong lots of active breaks using Go Noodle, Just Dance, Scavenger hunts and hopscotch as well as trying to make our lessons active by throwing socks at our tricky words and jumping on our sounds,
2nd-6th class:
We have been doing some similar active breaks like the junior end of our school along with tasks such as Kidsbop dance, fitness videos, Joe Wicks, Learn to move, Chance dance, creating our own workouts, Cosmic Yoga and Yoga with Adrienne,
It is so important to keep active and have fun while doing it especially at the moment. We are getting ready for our ACTIVE HOMEWORK month in March.
