Engineering week

3/4/2019

Today we teamed up with 5th class to complete an exciting activity for engineering week. First we met in the parent's room and we made jelly in teams. Next we wrote procedures. When the jelly set we were given materials to build and tall, sturdy structure that had to withstand an Earthquake. In teams we designed our structures and discussed what we felt would work best. We googled structures using the tablets for ideas. We were given spaghetti, marshmallows and jellies  to use to build our structure. When we started our construction we realised the task was more difficult than we first thought. We had to adjust our designs and problem solve to make the best structure. The structure then had to be place inn a tray of jelly and shook for 10 seconds. The jelly represented an Earthquake. Most teams were successful, some learned from their mistakes and the team with the highest, most successful structure won a homework free pass. We presented our structures to the class. We had a lot of fun.
